Why do you want to join the DiveIn community?
The DiveIn CDT provides diverse and world leading expertises from various areas to the candidate PhDs which are unique and cutting edge. I could provide my expertises in semiconductor devices and circuits which are core to many focused areas of research within the centre.
Personal profile:

I am Professor Chong Li, the Director of Centre for Advanced Electronics (CAE) at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow. I am passionated about not only “blue sky” ideas but also extreme engineering for practical applications.

My research group is focused on semiconductor devices and their applications in communications, radars, quantum computing, sensing, and power. We have developed the first hybrid RF and ultrasound power transfer system as well as built a hybrid solar-hydro power plant and its distribution networks in a remote village in Bangladesh providing electricity to several hundreds of people for the first time. We also have engineered transistors with as small as 20 nm as well as a noise receiver for polarimetry exploration in space.

There are several PhD positions waiting for you to explore including (1) Cryogenic transistors for quantum computing systems (2) active metasurfaces for future comms and (3) wireless sensing for large scale infrastructures. Whether or not you want to stay in academia or move to industry after your PhD, the knowledge, skills and experience obtained in the programme will definitely make you competitive.
