Mission Priority Areas
I am a passionate scientist in the fields of organic chemistry and chemical biology. My research revolves around understanding the interactions of peptides and small molecules in living systems, with a focus on drug discovery and chemical probe development for medical applications.
In my research group, we foster a collaborative environment. Our team includes chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists, encouraging a vibrant exchange of ideas and approaches to scientific challenges.
I am eager to form collaborations with scientists from diverse disciplines. Partnering with computer scientists for drug discovery simulations or materials engineers for innovative drug delivery systems holds immense potential.
I am keen on participating in interdisciplinary Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) projects. By integrating organic chemistry, computational modeling, and cellular biology, we can pioneer cutting-edge therapeutic molecules.
As a supervisor, I prioritize nurturing independence and critical thinking in my students. I foster a positive and inclusive lab culture that values each individual’s ideas and contributions.
My past graduates have excelled in academia and industry. Some have joined other research groups at prestigious universities, while others drive innovation in pharmaceutical companies.
EDI is fundamental to my scientific philosophy. I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment and promoting diversity in STEM fields.
Beyond science, I find solace in hiking and exploring the Munros. I love spending time with my wife and three children, sharing hobbies such as swimming and rugby. I also enjoy my role as an Explorer Scout leader, helping young people develop lifelong leadership skills.
