Strategic Research Areas
Why do you want to join the DiveIn community?
I want to join the DiveIn CDT community because I value research that brings together people with different experiences, perspectives, and expertise. Some of the most interesting research questions arise when we look beyond our own disciplines and challenge established ways of thinking.
My research focuses on artificial intelligence applications in power systems, but the challenges facing our energy systems require interdisciplinary approaches. I see DiveIn as an opportunity to explore these connections, learn from colleagues across disciplines and develop research that makes a meaningful contribution to society.
Having studied and worked in different academic environments, I appreciate the value of diverse perspectives and supportive mentoring. I am particularly drawn to DiveIn's emphasis on inclusive supervision and giving doctoral researchers an active role in shaping their projects. I hope to contribute my research experience, support emerging researchers, and be part of a community where different ideas are genuinely welcomed.
Personal profile:
Making electricity networks cleaner, smarter and more reliable is what drives my research. I am a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, renewable energy and power systems. My research spans renewable energy forecasting, microgrids, power system protection, power flow analysis and energy optimisation. I currently lead a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie-funded project on adaptive protection for hybrid AC/DC networks.
I enjoy working across disciplines and welcome collaborations in data science, control engineering, cybersecurity, environmental science and energy policy. Through DiveIn, I hope to co-develop PhD projects exploring resilient low-carbon grids, AI-driven energy solutions and sustainable electrification, while remaining open to new ideas and research directions.
As a supervisor, I aim to provide guidance while encouraging researchers to think independently, challenge assumptions and develop their own ideas. I have mentored postgraduate researchers from different backgrounds, some of whom have gone on to work for leading international companies.
Having studied and worked in South Korea and now working in the UK, I value the different perspectives and experiences that people bring to research. I aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas and learning from challenges.
One of the most rewarding aspects of academia for me is seeing researchers grow in confidence, develop their own ideas and succeed in their careers.
