The Future Telecom theme at the University of Glasgow is at the forefront of transformative telecommunication technologies. The approach is not just about advancing the technical landscape; it’s about reshaping our global connectivity.
In the sphere of Wireless Communications, the groundbreaking work in developing new waveforms and enhancing IoT communications is setting new standards for efficiency and security in data transfer. This innovation extends to the Healthcare Technologies sector, where they’re revolutionizing patient care with non-invasive, predictive health monitoring systems (Wireless Communication and Healthcare Technologies).
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is another key area, where the group is optimizing network resource management, ensuring smarter and more responsive connectivity. The group’s initiatives in Free-space Optics and Wireless Backhaul are addressing the crucial spectrum crunch, while their work in Energy Harvesting Communications is redefining network sustainability. They are also tackling challenges in Ultra-reliable Low Latency Communications, essential for critical applications like autonomous vehicles.
These innovations are part of several EPSRC/DCMS/DSIT funded projects, including 5GRuralFirst, 5GNewThinking, COMP-O-RAN and more recently CHEDDAR, TUDOR, BEACH, SCONDA, and ON-SIDE, each contributing uniquely to advancing communication technologies.
University of Glasgow’s future telecom theme’s vision transcends mere technological advancement; it’s about creating an interconnected world that is smarter, faster, and more intuitive – a future where communication is as natural as breathing.
